Chapter 4 — The Split Decision

The room darkened.

Then every glass surface lit up at once.

A question appeared:

"Which subject is original?"

The rich boy stepped forward immediately.

"I am."

Nothing happened.

The system remained silent.

The street boy then stepped forward.

"I am here."

The entire facility reacted instantly.

"SUBJECT B CONFIRMED ACTIVE."

The woman stumbled backward.

"This is wrong," she whispered.

The man from earlier appeared again in the doorway.

"Nothing is wrong," he said calmly. "This is just the result."

The rich boy turned toward him.

"What result?"

The man answered:

"Separation creates comparison. Comparison creates definition."

The street boy pressed his hand against the glass.

The system responded softly:

"Welcome back."

The rich boy looked shaken.

"Mom… why is it choosing him?"

The woman did not answer.

Because she was realizing something worse.

It was not choosing.

It was recognizing.
