A Stranger Child Stopped His Lunch, Then Called Him Dad

Chapter 3: The Woman He Lost, The Child He Never Knew

Lily's apartment door was already open when Adrian arrived.

One chair was overturned. A lamp lay broken on the floor. One of the curtains had been torn down as if someone had grabbed it during a struggle. The place smelled like panic. Adrian felt it before he fully saw it.

There was blood on the kitchen tile.

Not much. But enough.

"Search everything," he told Roman.

Elise moved through the living room while Adrian stood in the doorway, trying to keep himself from losing control. The apartment was small, plain, and painfully real. A school backpack sat by the sofa. A pair of little sneakers waited by the wall. On the fridge were drawings signed with the name Noah.

Lily had been living like this while he spent years believing she had abandoned him.

Elise found the next piece first. A cheap burner phone taped beneath the kitchen table.

There was only one saved recording.

Adrian pressed play.

Lily's voice filled the room.

"If you are hearing this, then I didn't get far enough."

Adrian had to brace one hand against the counter.

"I wanted to tell you the truth years ago. The night before our wedding, Vanessa came to see me. She told me she was pregnant with your child. She said your family would never let you marry me. I told her I didn't believe her. Then the car hit me on my way home."

Adrian closed his eyes.

Lily continued, her voice shaky but clear. "At the hospital, I was told my baby died. Later I learned he hadn't. A nurse took pity on me. She helped me find him. Noah had been hidden under a private name. Someone had paid a doctor to change the records. That doctor was Vanessa's brother, Daniel."

Roman swore under his breath.

Lily's next words came slower.

"I ran because Vanessa threatened Noah. She said if I came near you, he would disappear again. Years later I found out she never had your child. She lied to get close to you. I stayed hidden because I thought that was the only way to keep Noah alive."

Adrian's hand shook around the phone.

Then the final blow came.

"Adrian, if Vanessa is trying to kill you now, it means she knows you were about to change your will. It means she knows the truth is almost out. And if she knows about Noah..." Lily's voice cracked. "Then she will come for him first."

At that exact moment, Adrian's phone rang.

It was Roman's second guard, the man left with Noah.

His voice was breathless.

"Sir... he's gone."
