Luis found Daniel three days later.

He lived alone outside the city.

Older.

Tired.

But when he saw Luis standing at his door, his expression changed immediately.

"You should not have found me."

Luis froze.

Because Daniel did not ask why he was there.

He already knew.

"What happened to Elena?"

Daniel looked away.

For years, he had carried that question.

And for years, he had been afraid to answer.

"Your wife discovered something."

"What?"

"Something about the Carters."

Luis stepped forward.

"Tell me."

Daniel sighed.

"Victoria's family was using the school foundation to hide illegal money transfers."

Luis listened carefully.

But Daniel continued.

"Elena found the evidence."

A cold feeling moved through Luis.

"And then?"

"Then she tried to expose them."

Silence.

"She was killed before she could."

Luis did not react immediately.

"Why didn't you tell me?"

Daniel looked ashamed.

"Because they threatened Sofia."

"Dad?"

"I know Mom knew something."
